On view between September 25 and November 14, 2010, alongside Roundabout at the City Gallery Wellington, Vernon Ah Kee was a compact survey of the artist’s oeuvre to date and his very first solo exhibition in New Zealand. The exhibition included some of Vernon Ah Kee’s most iconic works—text pieces such as borninthisskin (2009) and larger than life portraits including his self portrait (the artist as a modern day Aborigine) (2007), as well as painted surfboards. Similar works were displayed in the artist’s installation as part of the Australian representation at the 53rd edition of the Venice Biennale in 2009.
