Sakrin Krue-On is this year’s recipient of the Prudential Eye award for Life-Time Achievement. This award, which is one of eight, recognizes an artist who contributed their lifetime work to Asian contemporary art and inspired others to pursue careers in art the art world. During his remarkable career, Sakrin Krue-On has re-conceptualized a gallery space for meditation, turned the outside of a German castle into a rice paddy field and turned a Biennale pavilion into a tourist office. His practice emerges from concerns specific to Asia and his works of art address Thai traditions from a current perspective. These local concerns have been taken to global arenas such as Documenta and the Venice Biennale.
