about the artist
Within his artistic practice, Jim Hodges subscribes to no single medium or approach—he manifests in every installation, sculpture, photograph, or assemblage his lyrical ponderings on the overlapping dichotomy of life and death, and the unstable relationship between the fleeting and the eternal. An American artist whose delicate works are often the sum of found materials and quotidian objects, Hodges makes art that seeks complementation in its viewer. He invites his audience to traverse through the most intimate valleys within our emotional landscapes and escorts our eyes to identify that beauty could be anywhere. Over the years, Hodges has been honored with numerous awards and grants from various foundations and associations; he has also completed residencies in Seattle and New York. His work has been exhibited in solo as well as group shows at museums and galleries all over the world. Major shows of late include Universal Experience: Art, Life and the Tourist’s Eye, which traveled between Hayward Gallery in London, UK, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, USA, and Jim Hodges: Love Etc., which passed through the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France; the Camden Arts Centre in London, UK; and the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, Ireland.
